Discord Bot

The Piczel notification bot posts in your Discord server when someone goes live or uploads a gallery post. It is not the same as a chat bot, which talks in Piczel chat.

Adding it

Invite the bot and pick the server you want it in. You need permission to add bots to that server.

Commands

Every command below needs the Manage Server Discord permission, except /help.

CommandWhat it does
/watch <username>Starts posting notifications for that Piczel user in this server. You can watch more than one streamer from the same server.
/unwatch <username>Stops posting notifications for that user.
/subscriptionsLists every Piczel user this server is watching and the notification channel. Only you see the reply.
/setchannel <channel>Sets the channel notifications post in. The bot needs permission to send messages there.
/notify role event:<stream|gallery> [role1..role5] [everyone] [here]Sets which roles get pinged for stream or gallery events - up to 5 roles, plus optional @everyone/@here. Leave every option out to clear pings for that event.
/notify message event:<stream|gallery> [text]Sets a custom message that prefixes notifications for that event, up to 1500 characters. Any @user, role, or channel mention in the text is stripped before it's saved - use /notify role for pings, not this. Leave text out to clear the message.
/notify showShows the current ping roles and custom message for both event types. Only you see the reply.
/notify helpShows full help text for /notify. Only you see the reply.
/nsfw <true|false>Turns NSFW thumbnails on or off. Off by default.
/help listLists every command with a one-line summary.
/help <command>Shows full help text for one command, e.g. /help watch.

/setrole still exists but is deprecated: it no longer sets anything and just replies pointing you at /notify role.

How notifications work

  • Two event types: someone you watch goes live, or uploads a gallery post. Nothing else triggers a notification.
  • Channel: notifications post in the channel set by /setchannel. If you've never set one, they post in the channel where you first ran /watch.
  • NSFW: off by default. While off, a post flagged NSFW or adult still gets announced, just without the thumbnail image.
  • Cleanup: if the stream ends or the gallery post is deleted, the bot deletes the notification message it posted.
  • If the bot loses channel access: if it can still see the channel but loses permission to send there, it detects the failure and automatically stops watching the affected streamer for your server - run /watch again to restore it. If the channel is deleted, or the bot can't see it at all, that isn't detected: the watch stays, and notifications for that server silently stop going out until you fix channel access or run /setchannel to point at a working channel.
  • Streamer setting: the streamer's own Piczel notification setting controls whether their events go out at all. /watch checks it and warns you at watch time if notifications are off for that user.
