Chat basics

Every stream has a chat room, and there are standalone rooms too, like piczel-help.

Joining

When you load any watch page, the chat will load and join automatically. Rooms you have open appear as tabs, so if you have multiple streams on one page that are not part of a multistream, you can switch between chats to keep up with both.

/join <username> opens that person's stream chat. If that stream is password-protected, /join will not work.

Writing messages

Emoji shortcodes like  turn into emoji as you send. Custom emotes work the same way and are covered in Emotes. Emoji/emote autocomplete kicks in after 3 characters.

Type /help to get a list of all chat commands, or see Chat commands.

Chat supports markdown: bold (**bold**), italic (*italic*), strikethrough (~~strikethrough~~) and `code` render styled, and ||text|| is hidden as a spoiler until someone clicks it.

Link a Piczel stream, post, or someone's gallery and it will show a preview tile.

The roster

The roster lists who is in the room, grouped by role (e.g. Admins, Streamers, Moderators).

Clicking a user icon or username in the chat or roster opens a menu with various links and actions: Stream and Gallery, PM, Block, and if you're a moderator kick and ban.

Private messages

A private message (PM) goes to one person; nobody else sees it. Click a username in the chat and then click "PM" to send one. Or choose View private messages in the chat menu to see the PMs you've sent and received.

PMs arrive in their own tab by default; PMs display in Chat appearance can put them inline with the room instead. Blocking someone stops their PMs along with their messages. See Blocking.

Customization

Colors, width, font, spacing, timestamps and emote size are all adjustable. See Chat appearance.
